"Why was 6 afraid of 7? Because 7 8 9, and you are supposed to eat 3 squared meals a day!" As you may know, Thurgood Marshall is home to many corny jokes such as this one. For obvious reasons, a joke's main purpose is to bring laughter to others, but jokes are also useful in many other ways as well. Relieving tension is one of those ways, for example; you and your friend have a big test coming up and both of you are super stressed. Crack a joke and both of you have temporary stress relief! (see joke video for some funny jokes.) Also, if someone is sad or feeling down, tell them something funny to lighten the mood (make sure it's in the right context, though!) Lastly, jokes can make you seem more approachable and an overall happier person. Don't be afraid to tell yourself a funny joke once in a while if you need a quick boost of happiness. Clearly, telling jokes is highly beneficial in lightening the mood, relieving tension and making you a happier or funnier person.
